Lockhart receives small business award

Danny Lockhart of A Clean & Tidy Carpet Cleaner has been chosen to receive the 2000 Jerry Barboe Small Business Person of the Year Award. Lockhart was presented with award at the Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce Business After-Hours, which formally opened the 2000 Business Expo. "The nomination itself is an honor. I appreciate being recognized by my peers and other individuals," said Lockhart. The award was established in honor of the late Jerry Barboe, former owner and operator of Citizens Office Supply. Barboe's contributions to the Rockdale Community have been consistently heralded by the local Chamber of Commerce and other community leaders. The criteria for nominations are two years in business in Conyers-Rockdale being active in the day-to-day business operations; owner, president or major stockholder in a business located in Rockdale; member of the chamber, growth in sales, income and number of employees; innovative products or services; response to adversity; and contributions to civic or community involvement. Lockhart is a member of the Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce, the Rockdale County Board of Realtors, Partners for Tomorrow and is currently in the Leadership 2000 class. "I'm also a big supporter of the American Business Women's Association and Project ReNeWal," he said. For over 20 years, Lockhart has owned A Clean & Tidy Carpet Cleaner, where he offers not only carpet cleaning but upholstery, oriental and drapery cleaning. Lockhart Said his company also offers catastrophe restoration and cleaning, such as flooded basements. "We provide services to the community that create a clean and healthy environment," he said. The chamber had five nominations for the award. This year's nominees were: Benny Atkins, National EMS; Dr. David Grosswald, Pearle Vision; Chris Ingle, Ingle Courier Service; Danny Lockhart, A Clean & Tidy Carpet Cleaner; and Lee Shoemake, Employee Benefit Specialists.

Danny Lockhart Receives Sam Walton Award

Danny Lockhart, president of A Clean & Tidy Carpet Cleaner, Inc., and his wife, Cindy, were recognized as the Sam Walton Business Leaders of the Year for 1999. This award was established by Wal-Mart in 1995 to honor local business people who best exemplify the principles of Sam Walton, its late founder: respect for the individual, service to customers, and commitment to excellence. Danny Lockhart was selected for this award because he is truly involved in the community. He not only owns and operates his business, but donates many hours to various civic organizations such as Kiwanis Club of Conyers and Project Renewal. A Clean & Tidy Carpet Cleaner, Inc. has been a member of the Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce since 1985. Chamber Chairman Guy Dobbs stated, "Danny has made tremendous contributions to the local community and the Chamber through volunteer work while maintaining a thriving business. We are pleased that he won this award."

A Clean & Tidy Carpet Cleaner, Inc. was born in 1979 as a commercial janitorial service which gradually added and changed its services to provide cleaning of carpet, upholstery, drapery, oriental rugs and water damage restoration both commercial and residential. Now 20 years strong and employing eight full time people, the company's primary focus to the customer is service beyond their expectations. To better serve the needs of the customers, Danny has achieved the highest level of training given in the cleaning industry as a Master Cleaner & Master Restoration Technician by the International Institute of Cleaning Restoration and Certification.

Woman of the Year Named

The American Business Women's Association has named its Woman of the Year. From left, the 1999 Woman of the Year Janet Allison presents Cindy Lockhart with the 2000 Charter Woman of the Year Award, the highest honor among their peers. Cindy, the current president of the ABWA, is married to Danny Lockhart, and has been his business partner and administrator of A Clean & Tidy Carpet Cleaner of Conyers for over 20 years. She is also a Team Leader and has been honored in the National Queens Court of Sales with Mary Kay Cosmetics. 'One of my goals is to help each woman I meet to feel good about herself, recognize her full potential and know that she can accomplish whatever she sets her sights on,' Cindy said. WOMAN OF THE YEAR: Cindy Lockhart was named 2000 Rockdale Chapter Woman of the Year of the American Business Women's Association.
Lockhart, partner and administrator of A Clean & Tidy Carpet Cleaner Inc., joined the chapter in 1993 and has served in numerous positions.
She was chairwoman of the chapter's membership, programs, newsletter, fund-raising, special events and business associate committees, and was vice president for two terms.
Lockhart also is involved in the Conyers / Rockdale Camber of Commerce and the Jaycees Empty Stocking Fund, and she helped establish Project ReNeWal, a shelter for victims of domestic violence.

Your chamber would like to publicly thank Danny and his expert technician, Ryan, for cleaning the carpet in the Welcome Center. We were afraid the carpet would need to be replaced, but thanks to Ryan's expertise and Danny's generosity, that was not the case. The carpet now looks wonderful and we thank A Clean & Tidy for their donation to the Chamber.
